Van de Graff

Today in class we played with a Van de Graff Generator. The generator would produce electrostatic charge. When Miss Reid put a metal ball next to the generator, it would cause electricity. The reason why the generator and the metal ball cause electricity is because it was charged by conduction. The generator itself is charged so when you put a metal ball next to it, it causes static charge. The metal ball is a good conductor therefore when you put it next to the generator, it causes electricity.

  1. It doesn't "cause" electricity, but it does kinda hold it there. That's why we call it Static Electricity (static = stays still). 3/3
