Standing Waves

Today, we did a lab on standing waves. We used a "super slinky" to see the different types of wavelengths we could get. I noticed that as we did a chart to see the different wavelengths, the meters of the wavelengths and the frequency changed but the speed remained the same all the time. For example, if the wave had 2 crests and 2 troughs then the wavelength was 6m and the frequency was 1.6 hz as well the speed was 9.6m/s. When the wave had 3 crests and 3 troughs, then the wavelength was 4m and the frequency was 2.4 hz and the speed was 9.6m/s. Now as you can tell, the wavelength and the frequency changed but the speed remained the same. I learned that a transverse wave is a type of wave where the particles are perpendicular meaning they go across. A compressional wave is a type of wave where the particles move parallel to the direction of the energy. We got to see examples of transverse waves and compressional waves.
